Richard Barrett became one of the most important African American, record producers and songwriters in R&B during the mid-1950s. He is best known today for turning The Three Degrees into an international superstar act during the 1970s. He began his career though as a singer with the influential doo-wop group The Valentines and this first ever compilation of his recording career begins with that group and continues with various solo recordings culminating in his most famous recording, 'Some Other Guy' which he co-wrote with producers Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller. This is the most comprehensive overview of his solo career ever released and includes some ultra-rare 45s plus hits like 'Summer's Love' with The Chantels. 31 tracks.

The Hollywood Argyles were archetypical One Hit Wonders, topping the US charts in 1960 with the multi-million selling, worldwide hit "Alley-Oop". This compilation features everything released by the Hollywood Argyles between 1960-62, including rare 45s and unissued demos. The Argyles' main man, singer/songwriter/producer/entrepreneur Gary Paxton had earlier been one half of a vocal duo, Skip & Flip, who'd hit the US charts in 1959 with a pair of million sellers "It Was I" and "Cherry Pie". Both are included herein as bonus tracks, alongside a handful of Skip & Flip rarities. Also featured are a number of Paxton's solo releases from 1962. 33 tracks.

The Impalas were all still in their mid-teens when they cut their first record, 'Sorry (I Ran All The Way Home)', which became one of the biggest hits of 1959. A wildly underrated group, they were unfortunately destined to break up less than two years later, although their trump card - lead singer, Joe "Speedo" Frazier - went on to record as a solo artist during the 60s. This compilation reissues their LP, also titled "Sorry?(I Ran All The Way Home)", plus their subsequent 45s, including their final release, on which they were billed as "Speedo & The Impalas". Also included, for reference purposes only, is a 45 by another, unrelated vocal group named The Impalas, which has provoked considerable debate and erroneously features in their discographies. Their non-album singles are particularly rare, and five of these tracks - including both sides of the "rogue" Impalas' disc - make their CD debuts herein. 19 tracks.
